Integrative Therapy

At Grounded Space an emphasis is placed on safety, trust, empowerment and support. I treat every client as a unique individual with their own set of experiences and circumstances. I work one-on-one to help recognise and facilitate self-awareness, understanding and growth depending on the needs of the client.

My approach to counselling comes from an integration of several therapeutic modalities including, Process Oriented Psychology (Processwork), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Existential Therapy, Transpersonal Psychology and Compassion Therapy.

As an integrated counsellor I utilise a holistic approach and take into account your mental, emotional and physical needs by applying theories and techniques from a variety of these modalities which I will flexibly and creatively tailor to your diverse circumstance.

Also utilising a ‘bottom-up’ approach within my therapeutic practice means there will be elements of mindfulness as part of therapy. This will help with the exploration of how emotions and the body are interconnected. With this awareness a new world of information can open to help resolve problems, reduce anxiety, emotional overwhelm, impulsivity, emotion regulation and an inability to relax. I have knowledge and understanding in the neurobiology of trauma and its impact to healing as well as the fundamental influence early childhood attachment to primary caregivers has to interpersonal relationships and to the quality of life.

Many hours of further training and professional development see me specialising in

  • Relationships - navigating divorce, infidelity, ethical non-monogamy and domestic abuse.

  • Sexuality - empowerment, diversity, identity, fantasies, fetishes and Kink.

  • Trauma Informed Care - focusing on the impact that an experience or experiences have had.

  • Transformational Individuation - self-realisation, integrating different aspects of self by bringing conscious awareness to the unconscious

  • Somatic awareness for anxiety and tension release.

  • Meditation and the mind-body connection.

“So much of what we call abnormality in this culture is actually normal responses to an abnormal culture.  The abnormality does not reside in the pathology of individuals, but in the very culture that drives people into suffering and dysfunction.”
-Dr. Gabor Maté

“Enlightenment is not imagining figures of light but making the darkness conscious.”

-Carl Jung

What Is Integrative Therapy?

Being integrative means I am committed to all aspects of therapy rather than being limited to one particular approach. As an integrated and holistic counsellor, I include all states of being - mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. This type of experiential therapy looks beyond the confines of a single-schooled approach in order to see what can be learnt from different perspectives.

The benefits of integrative therapy aim to promote healing through an alliance between the mind and body. This facilitates wholeness to ensure all levels of a client’s being are functioning to their full potential. Practicing from a felt state, connecting to the wisdom of the body and tracking somatic energies allows us to tap into unconscious material and bypass the cognitive aspects of self. Utilising this approach whilst being anchored in the sound theoretical framework of different modalities, underpins the integration of this type of holistic therapy. With these skills, my counselling techniques will be tailored to the individual needs and circumstances of each client.
